🔌 Find the Right Wire Gauge in Seconds! ⚡

Get the exact wire size recommendation based on your voltage, current, wire length, and material—ensuring safe and efficient electrical performance.

Using the correct wire gauge is critical to prevent overheating, voltage drops, and power loss. This calculator helps engineers, electricians, and manufacturers quickly determine the optimal wire size for their application.

How To Use:

  • Enter your Voltage (V): The operating voltage of your circuit
  • Enter your Current (A): The expected amperage load on the wire.
  • Input Wire Length (ft/m): The total round-trip distance of the wire run.
  • Select Material: Choose between Copper or Aluminum wire.
  • Set Allowable Voltage Drop (%): The maximum acceptable voltage loss due to resistance. (NOTE – The calculator allows entry of a voltage drop, but caution should be used when doing so to make sure you are calculating the wire sizes in accordance with NEC article 210-19 (FPN No. 4.) The NEC allows a maximum of a 3% voltage drop on the main branch of a circuit at the farthest outvar of power and 5% total to both feeders and branch circuits to the farthest outlet.
  • Adjust Temperature Correction In °C: If applicable, enter a correction factor for environmental conditions. (NOTE – The resistivity of a conductor depends on its temperature, so the environment you will be installing your wire in will affect the wire size. When specifying a temperature, try to think of the maximum temperature the wire is likely to operate in, to be on the safe side.)
  • Click "Calculate" to get the recommended wire gauge, voltage drop details, and safety warnings.
